Introduction:

Map collection emphasizes on different kinds of maps and atlases of Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland as well as major countries and cities of the world, including:

General Maps:

maps of the world, continents, countries, cities and regions, providing information on boundaries and place names;

Country/City Maps:

maps of the Chinese Mainland, major countries and cities of the world, providing regional information;

Topographic Maps:

large and medium scale topographic maps of Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and major regions around the world, providing information on topography, relief height and landmarks, usually illustrated with contour lines;

Thematic Maps:

maps on special topics such as transportation, politics, roads, geology, natural resources, land use and population distribution;

Historical Maps:

focus on early maps of Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland for the research and study on geography, history and cartography;

Satellite Maps:

satellite images covering areas of Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and selected countries.

Map Library also collects special maps on Hong Kong produced by related departments of the Hong Kong SAR Government, including Topographic Maps, Geological Maps, Countryside Maps, Nautical Charts, Outline Zoning Plans, Street Naming Plans, etc.
